It is a non-recording rain gauge. It consists of a funnel with a circular rim of 12.7 cm diameter and a glass bottle as a receiver. It is fixed vertically to the masonary foundation with the level rim 30.5
cm above the ground surface. The rain falling into the funnel is collected in the receiver and
is measured in a special measuring glass graduated in mm of rainfall. The rainfall is measured everyday at 8:30 hours IST.But when there is a heavy rainfall,it must be measured 3-4 times a day.It gives only total depth of rainfall but not intensity of the rainfall.
