What is the difference between the specific yield and specific retention for a particular soil?

Specific yield:- The volume of water an aquifer releases from/takes into storage per unit surface area of the aquifer per unit change in component of head normal to the surface.
                                      Sy=(volume of water drained by gravity/Total volume)*100

Specific Storage:- The % volume of water that is retained against the force of gravity when subjected to gravity drainage.
                                    Sr=(Volume retained/Total volume)*100
                                  Porosity =Sy+Sr
